Our Environment – Printing for the Planet

Carbon Capture Programme

The Carbon Capture Programme allows us to capture our COemissions by planting native woodland right here in the UK. For every paper purchase we make, a percentage of the cost is given directly to the Woodland Trust who use it to plant woodland at one of their accredited woodland creation sites within the UK. Their vision for the UK is to expand their 1,200 woodlands and create rich native woods and trees for the public to enjoy, a goal which H&H Reeds Printers and our customers will help achieve.

We provide carbon captured print for our customers and their businesses at no extra cost, enabling their carbon impacts to be offset by the Woodland Trust. We do this as we understand that we all have a part to play in the fight against climate change and recognise that our customers believe the same way we do. That is why we are pleased to be a member of the Carbon Capture Programme.

ISO 14001:2015

ISO 14001 is an environmental standard which provides companies, such as us, with practical tools so we may manage our environmental responsibilities effectively. Like most standards, it is constantly being updated with the latest version being ISO 14001:2015. Begining in January last year, we have worked hard to improve our environmental procedures and reduce our impact so we may improve our environmental performance. By carrying out these improvements we have been able to achieve our sustainability and environmental objectives.

As a company we are continually working hard on improving our environmental procedure, we have put a framework in place to give us better management control. We are continually measuring and reducing our environmental impacts as well as improving our companies efficiency. We have continually reduced our waste and consumption resources each year since 2007.

In September 2017 we underwent the two-day audit so we could transition to the new standard. It obviously went well as we are happy to announce that we have been certified for ISO 14001:2015. That’s nine months before the deadline! Further emphasizing our commitment to minimising our environmental impact.

Our Environment

H&H Reeds Printers continually work hard to ensure that our environmental management system produces results and isn’t just window dressing. We have addressed a number of issues including:

  • the installation of energy efficient lighting in the main print works
  • the use of vegetable based inks in the printing process
  • the fitting of PIR sensors in low usage areas to auto switch lights off
  • the implementation of a ‘Cycle To Work’ scheme for staff
  • installation of a process-less platemaking machine saving energy and chemical usage as well as negating the need to discharge to drain
  • the recycling of over 95% of all waste materials
  • by employing recycling bins around the works we have reduced our landfill waste by over 80% – and counting!
  • implementing a paper  stock management system which is reducing over ordering, wastage and stock levels
  • employing an award-winning company to recycle by-products of the printing process in an environmentally friendly manner
  • employing an Environmental Manager to oversee the environmental systems and implement new procedures
