We are delighted to announce the promotion of Phil Gowling from Works Manager to Production Director.  Proving that you are never too old to learn, Phil was one of the first people in the country to benefit from the British Printing Industries Federation’s inaugural level 5 training course, The Graduate Management Programme in Print & Media accredited by the ILM.

The printing industry graduate management programme was initiated by the BPIF, in response to the challenge of preparing for the next generation of leaders within the industry, arming them with the knowledge and skills to advance their careers.  With his internationally recognised degree, Phil applied his new skills to his role as Works Manager, and now less than two years later takes up the position as Production Director, proving that hard work does really pay off.

H&H Reeds Printers are the largest dedicated print company in Cumbria with premises in both Penrith and Milnthorpe. Their continued investment in new technology and their people reinforces the company’s standing as the leading print business in the North West, and certainly one of the most forward thinking in the UK.

Commenting on his promotion, Phil said: “I am grateful to the directors at H&H Reeds, and the H&H Group CEO for this opportunity. In my time at the company I have gained extensive knowledge of the staff and the business, which combined with my external studies, gives me a great insight into our company.  I am looking forward to making a positive input in the strategic planning for the future, and taking H&H Reeds Printers forward.

Phil having worked in the printing industry all of his life has certainly come a long way after leaving school at 17 and deciding not to go university.  Phil of Roadhead near Carlisle, joined Charles Thurman & sons Ltd, a long established printing and stationery company as a printing office administrator.  Phil worked there for 25 years before moving to H&H Reeds Printers in 2005 to start on the shop floor as a print finisher. After 18 months on the shop floor he was promoted to Works Manager.  During his time Phil completed various courses related to his role and experience.

As befits a modern well-equipped company, H&H Reeds offer a complete print service including design printing, production signs, exhibitions boards and display work.  They have a large customer base across the North West of England, however almost 20% of its work comes from outside the region, with its farthermost customer based in the Falkland Islands.
